Was it right or wrong to ask the gay couple kissing in a pub to leave?

Many people seem to think it was terrible that the couple were asked to leave. Has anyone thought that maybe the issue that they were gay was not why they was asked to leave. I am asking because personally when I see a man and a woman kissing in a pub I find it just as distasteful as a gay couple. I think there is a time and place to be snogging your other half and in the pub is not the place. And if it was a straight couple that were kissing and had been asked to leave because they were making people feel uncomfortable would there be so much drama surrounding it?
